Bronze, 2024
Long Distance Traces consists of a set of breadcrumbs in bronze and is about transience. Man is the only being that does not accept being what it is, namely finite and ephemeral, which explains the choice of material of bronze for these crumbs. However, the trail that every person leaves behind is sooner or later erased. In a broader context, Schscht highlights with this work that art can be at the center of a social debate, not by providing answers or making moral judgments, but by forming a trail of breadcrumbs that lead nowhere. In this way, art can serve as a strange compass that illuminates certain themes from a completely different angle.
We do not present a ready-made story. We do not present or tell undeniable truths. As artists, we confront reality by recreating a new one, which shows what no one wants to see: doubt instead of conviction.
